It’s been a while since I sat down with Michael Damián (formerly MD11) and talked about music. After taking a short break, he returns not only with a new name, but also with a BEAST of a track.
Say a couple sentences about yourself for those who don’t know you.
I’m a guitarist from Southern California that enjoys the simple things in life. I come from a family full of musicians so my love for a vast variety of music came to me at a young age. Being that I was born and raised in the Air Force, I have a major desire to interact with people from different walks of life. This not only applies to my personal life but to the platform I aspire to create musically.
So it’s been a while since we’ve talked. What have you been up to?
I’ve been working on a lot of new music and have been collaborating with some new musicians from around the world. I’m really enjoying the process and just expanding my sound. I can’t wait to share with everyone!
How did you evolve as a music producer? Any new tools/techniques/philosophy on music production?
I have matured in my sound and have taken the time to evolve in the quality of music making. Taking advice from other engineers/producers has made a world of a difference. My philosophy in life and musically is, in order to grow you must be open minded and continuously be the student even once you’ve become the teacher. I never stop learning so I will never stop growing in my craft.
Tell us about “worlds collide”. What’s the Idea behind the track?
Funny that you ask that because it happened randomly. The idea came about because my sister was reading Romeo and Juliet at the time. She was constantly talking to me about it and I thought to myself, “what if I can create the same emotions of that iconic piece musically, in a modern day form?” So I started playing around with the idea, went off the vibe of the original play which transferred into sound, and the rest is history.
What’s next for you?
Man, the sky is the limit and God willing, it will only continue to go up from here. I plan to hit the stage in the coming years and hopefully people will love what I am putting out. I want to keep collaborating with talented artists and just continue to enjoy the process of making heart felt music. Stay tuned!
